Daily Duties:
The International Trade Internship at the U.S. Commercial Service Pontiac, MI office allows students to spend time on the inside track of international business and gain professional experience that can provide an essential edge for entering today's job market. Interns support eight International Trade Specialists and a Director with various short and medium term projects dedicated to export promotion. Projects range from counseling U.S. companies, compiling trade statistics and global market intelligence reports on industry trends to managing a client database, conducting congressional outreach, interacting with local international business community, promoting B2B matchmaking programs, attending trade shows, fulfilling international trade leads, tracking performance metrics, handling telephone inquiries and assisting with administrative tasks. Inquiries originate from start-ups to experienced exporters and may encompass trade regulations, documentation and commodity classifications.

Eligibility
Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National (copy of your Naturalization certificate is required prior to starting) and be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university at least part-time. Background check required. Part-time (minimum 20 hours per week) and full-time positions available.
Seeking students with an interest in International Affairs, good interpersonal skills and strong writing, research, verbal communication, social media savvy and multi-tasking skills. Following majors welcome: Business, International Relations, Economics, Marketing, Communications.
Internship is UNPAID, but experience is priceless!

A comprehensive background check and fingerprints are required by Commerce Security Office once intern is selected. Process can take up to 1 month, please apply early to allow for processing time.
