Water Engineering Intern- Wright Water Engineers

Since 1961, Wright Water Engineers, Inc. (WWE) has been a Colorado institution devoted to water rights and water/wastewater engineering consulting. WWE is devoted to improving public use and conservation of water resources and sustainability.

We value the state-of-the-art skills that science and engineering students can bring to our engineering practice.

Civil and/or Environmental engineers with a water focus, please apply by February 15, 2017.
Only undergraduates, please.

Describe the value of the proposed Internship to the Intern:
WWE has many interesting and challenging projects to advance an intern's career. The field of water resources engineering covers many disciplines such as hydrology, hydraulics, water quality, drainage and flood control, and water rights. The intern will learn about the consulting engineering business and, after this summer experience, will be better informed to answer the question "Is consulting engineering the right career for me?" Outside field work in Colorado during the summer months is always interesting and may be part of the intern's work. In addition to the traditional projects, the intern may have the unique opportunity to work with the Wright Paleohydrologic Institute (WPI) studying how water engineering was applied by ancient peoples.

Job Description (should include: hours of work, job responsibilities, reporting structure -- chain of command, a description of the intern's "typical" day):
The internship will be full time (Monday through Friday) with responsibilities that vary day to day given the transient nature of the projects at hand. The intern will be mentored by an experienced, professional engineer. The intern's job responsibilities may include the following: * Stormwater quality best management practices planning (including Low Impact Development) * Hydrology and floodplain planning * Fieldwork for water quality sampling and stream flow measurement * Water/wastewater planning and design (including process, hydraulics, and equipment specifications) * Preparing technical reports * Meeting with client representatives * GIS engineering applications. Individuals with the good time-management skill will excel in this environment in that they will likely be involved with multiple projects with varying work product deadlines.

Management Goals: (should include: role of supervisor, frequency of intermediate reviews, expectations of intern, and an explanation of how the intern fits into the organization's goals -- please indicate whether supervisor works full-time or part-time):
Interns are evaluated weekly and will be expected to work diligently and actively as a team contributor to fulfilling project deliverables. The assigned Mentor will interact with project supervisors monthly on the intern's contributions.

Special Job Requirements (i.e. transportation, language, technical or other skills):
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook a must. Other helpful skills include CAD, GIS and proficiency with hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software.

Civil and/or Environmental engineers with a water focus a must.

Cover letter and resume should be uploaded and submitted through Handshake no later than Feb 15, 2017.
